Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons football club was formed in 1965 and began play in the National Football League in 1966. The Falcons birth became the first pro football team in the South. The Falcons will celebrate their 50th season in the NFL in 2015. The team’s first ever draft pick was coveted University of Texas Linebacker Tommy Nobis, who was named the League’s Rookie of the Year in 1966 and was voted to five Pro Bowls. The Falcons have captured five Division titles and posted 12 playoff berths. Over a five-year period from 2008-2102, the Falcons won 56 games, which were the second-most victories in the entire NFL. One of the shining moments in team history came in the 1998 season when the Falcons defeated the heavily-favored Minnesota Vikings in a thrilling NFC Championship Game to advance to their first Super Bowl (XXXIII) in Miami. On February 2, 2015, the team hired their 16th head coach in club history with the selection of Dan Quinn. Quinn was the highly-successful defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks, who helped guide the Seahawks to appearances in the last two Super Bowls, winning Seattle’s first-ever World Championship in the 2013 season. The club’s General Manager since 2008 is Thomas Dimitroff. The Falcons President & CEO is Rich McKay.
Rich McKay is the President and CEO of the Atlanta Falcons. He is the only current NFL executive who has been the point person for the negotiations and construction of two NFL stadiums. During 13 seasons as an NFL General Manager, he built six teams that reached the NFC playoffs, three that reached the NFC Championship game, and one that won a Super Bowl title. According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Mr. McKay is the only General Manager in 94-year history of the NFL to have his first two draft picks as a GM be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Mr. McKay is the Chairman of the NFL Competition Committee and also has served on the NFL Management Council Working Group, making him one of the more influential executives in the league. Mr. McKay and his wife, Terrin, have two sons, Hunter and John.
